Preparations continue for 2010 rally season

Yorkshire-based brothers Paul and Mike Woodford will return to the special stages for 2010 when they compete in the team's newly rebuilt Citroen Saxo VTS.

Although plans had included an assault on the 2010 ANCC (Association of Northern Car Clubs) Championship, Paul's commitments as a TV Presenter mean that too many event dates clash, so this season will see the pair compete in a selection of events designed to develop the car, and the team. As Paul explains:

"It's disappointing not to be entering a championship this year, but in a way it's probably the most sensible decision as we're back to square one where we were this time last year, with a new car and limited stage experience. So this year is all about getting more experience and developing the car."

The Citroen Saxo is a 1600cc engined rally car, which means the team will be competing in a class up from last year in the Ford Ka, which was 1300cc. After a brief road test in the car this weekend, Mike is looking forward to getting started:

"The Saxo looks like it's going to be a lot more competitive, and it's certainly a handful on the road - it will be interesting to see how it goes on the stages and we're hoping we can bring home some results this year!"

The team looks set to compete in events based mainly around Yorkshire and Lincolnshire this season, with the highlight of the year being a trip to Caerwent in Wales for the Patriot Stages Rally in September. Paul said:

"Caerwent has kind of become an annual pilgrimage for us, though this will be the first time I've driven on the stages there. It's a really exciting event and the Forrester Car Club always put on a good event so we're looking forward to that rally, for sure. It'll be nice to get to the finish this year aswell! As usual the team have been hard at work helping us prepare the car, so I'd like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to Tom and Darren."

Competing as members of North Humberside Motor Club, the Woodford brothers will be getting involved in a range of events locally to raise the profile of rallying and promote the team and their sponsors.
